How to get market ready without blowing the budget

By Heather Mellican

Some people think in order to up the value of their property they need to splurge big bucks on renovations. But before you start calling in the trades, why not try some of these quick fixes that can make a huge difference.

De-clutter: One of the easiest ways to make your home instantly more presentable is to tidy it up. Get rid of anything you don’t need and clean bathrooms, especially the tiles and shower recesses, ovens and cook tops.

Create a blank canvas: You may love your bright yellow wall, however neutral colours allow potential buyers to project their own style into the property. Nobody ever says, ‘I hate that white wall’. Replace dated blinds and curtains and make the home look loved and cared for. Featured is the lounge from 21 Scarlet Drive, Bundoora.

Update: Think cosmetic, not structural. Instead of knocking out your dated kitchen or bathroom, try freshening it up.  In the bathroom, paint the tiles, replace the toilet, vanity, basin or mirrors. Kitchens can easily look more modern with a fresh lick of paint, a change of door handles and a good clean.

Green Thumb: Don’t forget about the exterior. Trim back overgrown trees and shrubs and make an impression from the get-go.
